Veterans Day is a time for us to pause, reflect and to honor those who have served in all branches of the U.S. military. Today, we stand united to celebrate the brave men and women who have committed themselves to protecting this land of the free. But how much do you really know about Veterans Day? Here are five facts that might surprise you…

  1. It was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”, the official end of WWI.
  2. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.
  3. Other countries celebrate it too, in their own unique ways. Canada calls it “Remembrance Day”.
  4. It can NEVER be held on a Sunday.
  5. The date changed once (to the 4th Monday in October) but then was changed back to November 11th.

At Provisions Health, we extend a heartfelt “thank you” to all who serve. Today, we salute YOU!
